Neil Collier

I am a self-taught woodturner rediscovering this hobby in 2000 having not done it since high school about a 20 year break. I enjoy all types of woodworking but the woodturning is my favourite. Even my work as a carpenter and builder for approximately 30 years has involved working with timber.

The first lathe I purchased cost $100 from a hardware retailer which included a set of 6 chisels. These served me well for 3-4 years even though it was poor in quality it spun the wood well enough to produce many items. I have changed lathes and chisels many times since then and now use a Cougar lathe which I am very happy with. The following gallery of my work shows just a small representation of the variety of work I have done over the past 21 years. I hope you enjoy the pictures.

THE AXE (my wood chopper. pun intended).

My biggest undertaking so far. 660 individual pieces, including 408 in the chain, this took me over 300 hours to compete and 100% timber. Not a nail or screw used.

And this was a branch cut off a fallen tree from my yard that I thought had a natural shape of a goanna so I figured I could help other people to see the inner lizard.
