Free Scroll Sawing Workshop

Hawkesbury Woodcraft is presenting a course in the art of scroll saw woodworking. The course is designed to support flood affected communities in the Hawkesbury-Nepean area and will be free of charge thanks to the financial support of Wentworth Healthcare. The course will be delivered over four days, the timing of which will be negotiated with the participants, and it will be run by highly experienced and award-winning scroll saw workers. 

This session will comprise an exhibition of scroll saw work, a demonstration to show how the works are created and it will give participants an opportunity to have some hands-on experience working with the machines. This day will be open to anyone aged 16 or over and will be held at the Hawkesbury Woodcraft workshop at 15 Woodlands Road, Wilberforce. No experience is necessary. The remaining three days will have a limited numbers of participants to ensure the maximum amount of hands-on time. These participants will also receive free membership to Hawkesbury Woodcraft which entitles them to full use of the workshop’s for the rest of the financial year, during which time they can develop a wide variety of skills in a friendly and supportive environment.

All costs associated with the course will be covered by Wentworth Healthcare as part of their support for flood impacted communities. Morning tea and lunch will be provided.

By the end of the course participants will have created their own portfolio of works. They will be able to work safely and independently to undertake the full process including the preparation of blanks, applying a pattern, drilling start holes, cutting out the product and applying a finish. They will also be able to continue their craft at the workshop for months, and hopefully years, into the future. They will also be welcome to branch out into other areas of woodworking such as box-making, wood turning, cabinet making, carving, pyrography, furniture restoration etc.
